Go Go Yubari

I'd been meaning to do a Kill Bill piece since I saw the movie last summer, so, here you have it. My favorite character in the movie--Go Go Yubari. Hey, who doesn't love the psychotic Japanese schoolgirl with a mace & chain?

So, yeah, this took... a lot of time. I think four painting sessions, each three hours. The original resolution was 1000x2000, and that added to the time spent on it. I had a lot of fun painting this though--and I'd have to say that doing the skin tones took the longest. The hair was my favorite bit, and I got to toy around with a bunch of different techniques. The background was pretty standard--your typical Kill Bill motif.

Done in Painter 8.0 & Photoshop 7.0--one reference used for the pose. It had been drawn from memory originally with a sort of stylistic impression of her in my mind. Later I went back to find an actual picture of Go Go to try and get it right.

Very nice composition and you've did a great job on the hair except maybe for the fact that the angle of the hair does'nt fit with the angle of the head. The hair looks like it's seen from the front while the face is'nt. I love the experession on her face. Beautiful work!

Thanks! And I agree with you on the hair--at the time I couldn't quite pick out where to paint in the shines, but now I can see the mistake.

Looks just like her Nice and clean. Her left eye is off, though, don't remember if it was like that in real life, and I noticed the hair, too. But really good job - looks like a poster you'd see in Hot Topic or a movie store. More blood? On the knife?

Thanks Yeah, her eye's a little off in reality as well, so I guess that worked out, hehe. Dunno 'bout the blood though--I didn't want to overdo it.

and there's little or not enough detail in the bold outline to make her believable. it smacks of varying the value to compensate for lack of definition.

and the photoshop effects that i can't help noticing. the paint option, the impact font... considering this comes from a marketing poster, it just enhances the homemade aspect of it.

Thanks. Though in terms of Go Go herself, I will point out that I'd mentioned I had had a stylistic image of her in mind.
