Upon a Comet It Comes

10/28/2007 - <br /><br />Upon some far and distant orb I witnessed through my dreams last night sights of new life exploding from the sky. The seeds of a new creation story hitchhiking on swift comets. Crashing a new vitality into a frozen landscape where it's beginnings await a time to come when the warmth of some errant star will bring forth the inheritance of a new Spring yet unknown. I have heard it said that these celestial mariners have

Aphrodite Colossus

10/25/2007 - In a dream of days gone by, on some far and distant shore I strolled, as my eyes fell upon a vision of Beauty. From beneath the crystal blue surf there arose a mist of colored hues that coalesced into the personified image of Woman. Cupid's arrow stirred within my heart's beat as I was captured by the embodiment of perfect symmetry and grace. A delicate elegance of form and movement followed my gaze as I traveled visually across Her flawless lines of soft fine features that only could have been shaped in some celestial abode. I now knew why Helen had launched a thousand ships. Why Samson had lost his strength. And the Baptist, called John, his saintly head. Romeo's allegiance to his family was justly forsaken for Beauty's sake. Shakespeare knew of Beauty and described it well. How many countless artists, including myself, throughout history have been captured by Her influence. Mesmerized and driven to paint what cannot be painted. So illusive is Beauty. Because each person finds Beauty in their own special way. It is true that Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. visionary imagist "Joey"

Djinni Commands Our Nafs

10/23/2007 - In the ancient folklore of the deserts of Arabia lurked the Djinni's or as they are currently called in movies and in books, Genie's. The Djinni's or Genie's were a race of supernatural creatures. They were not revered by the ancients but quite the opposite, the Djinnis were feared. In the traditional folklore of the desert sands the Nafs are our false ego's. It seems to this artist that the Djinni's are still prowling the desert wastelands disturbing the peace and solitude of the desert. The oil found beneath the shifting sands has beguiled the Nafs of the greedy and powerful. It's black magic has enticed nations and men to fight for the superfluous wealth they seek. Their Nafs are destroying their very selfs and the nations they govern. In seeking to sate their unquenchable thirst for power and money these men have inadvertently enticed and awakened the primeval energy of the Djinnis. The very names of some of the Djinnis have descended down through the ages and have become part of our present day lore. Names such as Shaitan, Succubbi and Ghul are but just a few of the names that have made that journey on the backs of broken dreams of greed and lust. We must wrestle our Nafs into submission and allow our better angels to prevail. It is the will of a merciful and compassionate God that we must share the abundance that has been so freely given to us. It is in this sharing that we will find our redemption. visionary imagsit "Joey"<br /><br />

Mother's Love

10/18/2007 - What a magnificence love is. It's ardor has been with us since the beginning of time. Without it's warm presence none of us would be here. Love's affection has propelled this planet's progeny from the very start and allowed the earth to be filled with an abundance of creatures so vast and numerous that it startles the mind. What a wonder love creates. Nature from the very start has been called Mother. Every culture since time began has referred to all of Earth's creation as Mother Nature's work. We, as Her offspring, must return Her love for us with a reverence, respect and admiration for what has been so freely given to us. We must husband these treasures of Her love and insure that they grow to complete fruition and continue to thrive for future generations. It is a tacit responsibility that is inherent with our compact of love with our Mother called Nature. visionary imagist "Joey"

Separating the Herd

10/16/2007 - There is a strength in numbers. It has always been that way. All creatures seek safety. A safety that can be found in coming together to unite in goals and purpose. All great movements throughout history have been bound up with the enormity of many people seeking the safe and secure refuge that is in numbers. Gandhi knew this. A humble man whose non-violent protest broke the back of oppression, violence and brute force. By amassing together with a unified objective humankind can move any obstacle in their path. History is filled with such great men and women who, with the help of a motivated populace, surmounted great evils and cruel tyrannies. It still remains that way today. The means to secure our safety and happiness lies within our own hands, it is in our grasp to combat the forces that would separate and destroy us. The opportunity to defeat any enemy is provided for by the enemy themselves. Every problem holds within itself the very solution that can resolve it. Any philosophy, belief or dogma that separates us from ourselves is inherently immoral, unethical and wrong. If as a species we are to continue to thrive we must put aside our differences, the differences that would separate us, and seek a common ground that we all can live on together. visionary imagist "Joey"

Planet Rise

10/09/2007 - When I close my eyes and sleep I can see sites that I can never see when I am awake. An evening not too long ago I found myself witnessing the rise of a huge brightly colored globe from a planet cold and desolate. I was the only fortunate soul to witness this spectacular rising orb. It's opulence, it's wonder, it's brilliance stunned me with a beauty that leaves me silent and muted. My only recourse for me to relate this experience was to grab my brushes, oils and canvas and hopefully recount what I saw. Can my paints truly do justice to the majestic and glorious scene that unfolded in front of me during that evening's repose? I am not sure. I am just an artist whose skills are limited. Limited by the confines of reality. So you be the judge and jury and tell me the verdict you have reached. Did I accomplish what I set out to do? I will sit patiently in the dock, a prisoner of the tangible, and await your judgment. visionary imagist "Joey"

Asteroid

10/06/2007 - How far can I see? Are there boundaries and limits to dreams? Last night I traveled to a distant place so far away there yet remains no maps or charts for these territories. My travels were filled with awe and amazement at the new vistas I encountered. Planets, stars and asteroids of indescribable beauty and form presented themselves for my perusal and enjoyment. As morning broke I arrived back from where I started lying in my bed grasping to remember the wonders I beheld the night before. How can I reveal what marvels I surveyed with common ordinary paint and canvas? I know I will fall short of my desired goal of relating this experience but I must try. It is what I do. I am an artist. And artists paint. So I paint this small, modest and lesser account of what I chanced upon last night. I know that my attempt lacks the expanse and profundity of my experience but I still must try. So forgive my inept abilities to present my encounter in the way I wish I could. But if you are what do and you don't then your not. I have tried to live by this little aphorism. It has served me well. So, here I go again trying to be and do what I think I must. Just a simple artist who pushes oil paint upon a canvas striving to be a little bit better one canvas at a time. visionary imagist "Joey"

Alignment

09/16/2007 - Propitious is the moment when everything I do flows like a river unencumbered. Every sign, every direction and every path opens to a new vista and becomes an unexpected miracle unfolding before me. It is then I know that I am following my bliss. It is like a painting that paints itself. The heavens open in such a way that all the gods smile down upon me and all my planets align and I become one with the universe. Harmony and balance, the Tao, surrounds my very being. A peace and contentment course through my veins. It is a Zen moment. To try and describe this propitious event is like attempting to explain the ocean to a frog in a well or ice to the summer dragonfly. No explanation can be had. No this occurrence cannot be described it can only be experienced. This precious Zen moment cannot be transmitted by mere words. Sometimes poetry and paintings can come close to describing this event but unfortunately they still miss the mark too. No, Zen moments just have to be experienced in order to be known. It is, and always will be, that way. visionary imagist "Joey"

Persistence of Evil

09/10/2007 - The moment of naked horror was palpable and forever frozen within the confines of my mind and soul in an unbelievable surreal landscape of terror and utter devastation. Yet, even in the midst of this horrendous spectacle the "persistence of good" outweighed the "persistence of evil". The selfless sacrifice of the brave individuals who responded to this terror bore witness to untold courage, valor and love that human beings are capable of when tragedy strikes. The "better angels of men" rose to surmount this Everest of evil and to reveal to all the unbridled love that humankind has at it's core. This connection to each other runs deep within the DNA that courses through the veins of all of us. Brothers and sisters are we. Together we move forward or backward. The choice remains ours to decide. visionary imagist "Joey"

Ecocide

09/09/2007 - Quo vadis? Have you heard the earth cry? Have you seen the forest bleed? Have you seen the sky weep? Awakened from my slumber I tremble from the nightmare that surrounds me. Is it real what I see? Or am I still dreaming about the tragedy unfolding around me? What can I do? I am just an artist. I have not much influence and worldly powers. Who will hear me when I tell them about my dream? Will my testimony matter? I just don't know. Nevertheless, I must tell what I saw the other night in my restless, fitful and convulsive dream. Even if no one listens. I must still relate my unsettling monstrous news. I fear that as in the past "they" shoot the messenger rather than listening to his report. I pray that that is not the case this time and that my message is acknowledged. We are all "star stuff" connected by our common ancestry and what we do to our Mother Earth we do to ourselves. We cannot escape this reality. The reality that a danger for one is a danger for all. visionary imagist "Joey"

The Experience of Angels

09/03/2007 - I was always a man of extremes, impetuous, and dangerously adventurous. With a sense of invulnerability that pervaded my very being. If I was told to try one of "something" I would try three. Never was there enough. You might say that my youth was wasted on me being young. You could say that and it would be true. But I think that this restless artist's heart drove him to journey on the path less traveled. Looking back I would not have had it any other way. I just would warn those who would also try the very same road that I traveled to be careful, it can be dangerous and some of my fellow companions didn't make it back home. Now, some say I am wiser, I know that I am defintely older. Yet, I'm not too sure of the former but I am of the latter. But I still enjoy traveling to distant, dangerous and exciting places but I think I'm a little smarter now. So I'll just use my paint, my brushes and my palette to do the traveling for me now. It's a lot safer for me to journey that way. So here's my wish for me and for all my fellow artist pilgrims that they color, brighten and flourish in all that they do. visionary imagist "Joey"

Night Ride

08/31/2007 - I still remember when I was very young and looked up into the night sky and wondered at all there was to see. This vast expanse of the night sky with little dots of diamonds and an ever changing disappearing monthly lunar sphere. It seemed more empty than full. It made me feel so small. And it made me ask many questions that seemed to bother most of the adults that I asked. I don't believe they had the answers that I sought and it made them frustrated and a little angry too. I think that they were upset because they did not know the solutions either. My questions never really stopped. I just stopped asking them. I still remember those questions and I haven't really given up in finding the answers. I'm just inquisitive, I guess. It's in my nature. So, I try and paint some of the solutions I've found to some of those perplexing problems. Why is there so much emptiness in space? Well, I think the answers is that in emptiness there so much potential and potentiality is where everything springs forth from. So the night sky becomes a blank canvas for God to fill. Every stroke of His brush is the overflow of his infinite heart. And His medium is Being. And what ever He touches comes alive. And as I write these words somewhere, out there in the cosmos, God is still painting His masterpiece. The masterpiece called the Universe. visionary imagist "Joey"
