What is the Honor System?
With our new Honor System policy, Foundmyself is stepping into uncharted territories. Never before has an art community given the artist all the tools they need to share their creations, sell their art, and customize their galleries without any mandatory cost. We still show no ads, and continually work to improve the community for you. The entire system is based on trust.
This is a radically new way of serving you, the artist.
In other words, if after using our services for a few months you find that they're beneficial to your life and/or career as an artist, we would expect you to donate some money to help keep the site going. If you sell a painting through the site, or find a client through the site, we would also expect a donation relative to the money you make.
This new system is somewhat of a social experiment. It's exciting! If everyone is honest and fair, as we try hard to be with you, the community will thrive. If people use the site but don't give back, the community will be forced to return to a strict monthly charge, which we don't want to do. We want you to have the tools available to you for free up front, and to trust you to pay back a little if and when you find them useful or profitable.
Don't other sites let me sell art free?
Other sites that claim to be free actually charge commission and take money from every sale. We give you all the tools and let you keep your money up front, trusting that you'll give back what you think is fair.
What do I get?
You get every feature previously available to paying members. No need to upgrade. Every person with a free account can sell their art, view statistics, style their gallery, and use all the features on Foundmyself. Individual gallery size has been increased to one gigabyte (1,000 megabytes) per person. That's thousands of large images.
What is Honorability?
You'll find that how often you visit the site, how much you participate, how long you've been a member, and how much money you've donated to the site will adjust your honor level (or "Honorability"). This new status indicator (shown by this icon:
in your profile and posts) lets other members know how much you value the community. Members with very low Honorability might have a notice to visitors of their gallery showing their lack of support. On the other hand, members with high Honorability might get special perks, such as a top position on the front page and in the gallery. Finally, Honorability earned through posting and donations allows you to display these rank images.
Can't I just cheat the system?
Of course you can, but if you do, you're also cheating all the other artists on the site. Plus, your Honorability will suffer, and your exposure and ability to make a sale will as well. On top of that, it's just a crappy thing to do, worthy of turd-sniffers and other such types.
OK, sounds great! Where do I start?
If you've already registered, you're ready to go! Just set up your art gallery as outlined in the help section if you haven't already, add your PayPal buttons, and start telling people where to find your art. We'll do our part to expose your art as well, as we have been doing all along.
Keep track of your sales and ask contacts where they discovered your art. If you feel like Foundmyself has been a good influence, give back.
