About the artist
From a very young age I knew that I wanted to paint I was not sure what form of art this would develop into but I felt the need to express my artistic flair. Whilst on holiday in 2003, I decided to explore this artistic ‘urge’. I started out with a limited kit -small drawing pad, some cheap paints and a plastic picnic cutlery set and discovered that I didn’t want to capture the moment with a scenic picture but in the form of an abstract piece of art.
Over the years I have moved on considerably. I have a comprehensive kit which consists of 2 bespoke easles which were designed by my Taid (Grandfather), consisting of various types of paint and I paint on a much larger scale using canvases; paintings can now take up to two weeks to complete. I have developed a unique style of my own which could be described as a mixture of representational abstraction of colour and elements of colour field painting. The nearest equivalent of this was developed in the USA in the 1940’s and 1950’s by Mark Rothko. Other influencers include Miro, Kandinksy, Pollock, Klee, Heron and Klasner.
My interpretation of my paintings is the relationship that the colours have with one another and with the layers and the textures of the materials I choose.
