Re: Art Studio Section

One technique that I really love is using a mixture of acrylic matte medium and gel medium instead of gesso to prime a canvas. Just mix them 1:1 and apply the same way you would gesso (make sure you sand in between layers). You will have a smooth, slightly flexible surface the color of your canvas. ...

Re: Favorite 5 Bands

Okay, here we go. 1. Dir en grey 2. Tool 3. A tie between Gwar and Apocalyptica 4. A tie between Nick Cave and Stabbing Westward 5. A tie between Modest Mussorgsky and Soundgarden Maybe next week Blind Guardian will be there too. I always listen to music, even though my friends laugh at me because I...

Re: Whats your favorite art book?

As a teacher, art books have been really useful for me to nurture in people an interest in art. 30,000 Years of Art has been great for me. It's a pretty big book, but it isn't bogged down by text like some art history books. The best feature for me is that the pieces are in complete chronological or...

Re: Please tell me if this is considered art? and critique?

I agree with Gary. I also think the interesting part of this message is not the current image itself, but the potential application of it. Where are you going to put it? It would make lovely graffiti.Graffiti as social activism has been very popular thanks to people like Banksy. Also, I think the dr...

Re: amateur photographers first pic

I agree with bloodjelly, the composition is very nice. The eye moves around the photograph a lot. Was this taken with a digital camera or a 35mm? I do wish the photograph was more clear in places, just because I can't tell if the picture was taken like that or if it was simply a filter in photoshop....

Re: a collage of contrast

The shape reminded me of a piece by Escher called "Metamorphosis." The piece up there is not a true tessellation, but I thought it would be an interesting place to go with the work so I mentioned it.

Re: Would seriously appreciate some feedback

Anne, I see what you mean. Another idea: since you deal mostly with drawing photographs of celebrities and their characters, have you thought about sending a celebrity one of your drawings? You can find a celebrity who tries to connect frequently with his or her fans (perhaps famous but not full on ...

Re: a collage of contrast

You know, another thing you can contrast is the intensity of the colors. You can have a very bright red and a dark, dull green or vise versa. You can also have one part patterned and the other part a solid color. The shape is pretty interesting. What made you think of it? You can do a lot with angle...

Re: Would seriously appreciate some feedback

I think that you have an astounding sense for bone structure in the face. Your work is beautiful. The one thing that detracts from your drawings for me is the borders. The messy borders for me contradict the professionalism of the images. Using masking tape has always done wonders for me. For your c...
