I find this work, rather morose.
I've never been good at reading artwork.
But, it's my guess that this isn't a happy work of art.

However, I enjoy it.

If this is your very first portrait, then I think you did a smashing job.
More value, and like someone mentioned already a tad more color.

Also depending on what you wish to accomplish it's not about about capturing the likeness of the subject, but instead the emotion/personality.

I practice Guitar and Mountain Dulcimer everyday,
I also regularly play my Ukulele, However I'm bent on learning the Sitar.
I also daddle around with my Banjo and Keyboard.

I prefer Dungeons and Dragons Online, when I'm not drawing or painting :-P.
