mmhhh...I had read V.Elliots book and Faragasso where you can find numerous procedures in oil painting, My favorite method is with a Grisalle (in a indirect way) and alla prima. I really like to make use of a dry brush and rub. 

Oil Painting is an extremely difficult medium to draw in realism. So I draw with pencil a simple design on canvas and then use a pallete knife and smush paint onto the canvas like as to sculpt. It is the only ability That I have. I hope this helps anyone that cant do it or just wants some archaic design technique.

I prefer to watch on Youtube, due to the opportunity not only to listen to the theory but also to see how it all looks
