Nature photography and CA College contest from Adobe

Postby Jaime Lyerly » Thu Jun 14, 2007 7:24 pm

So, not sure if nature photography really can be considered art, but I have some photos I think are worth showing off.

Also, if anyone is a student at a California Community College, there is a photo contest (free to enter) for students of best college shots in seven categories. I haven't quite made up my mind on which I want to enter, but the prize is $500 plus Adobe Creative Suite 3 software so it couldn't hurt to enter. Here is the website for anyone who is interested http://www.collegeseen.org. Deadline in June 30, 2007.

Here are some nature photos I have taken recently. Again, not sure if they qualify as "art" but they were fun to take!

Thank you. I am lucky that I live in San Diego, which has a huge park called Balboa Park. The koi fish are in the ponds there. It didn't take me too long to take this picture, and I have other ones too. Let me know if you want to see them and I will send them to you.

The problem was the fish don't exactly stand still for you, so some of my shots are only focusing on the back of the scales. The colors are great even though they are under a murky water.

There is such peace in the koi fish themselves, I love them. I am glad someone else has a connection to these wise looking fish!

Silly me, I got the real question after posting the reply. Nature is always moving which is why it is so peaceful for me to take pictures of the birds and such. To be able to capture the bird pictures, I actually have to stand still and be quiet, which is difficult for me! Also, a nice sized zoom helps!

All the birds are ones that frequent my college and my home. They are used to people being in their face I guess. I will see if I can email you some more koi fish. Thanks again!

Thank you very much. The nature photos look great blown up to larger sizes too, so it has been more fun taking them and seeing what a scrubjay looks like larger than life size!
