Just joined, having no formal education its extremely difficult in Holland to reach the general public.Gallerys have no interest if you have no academic qualifications and hanging pictures in restaurants is not worth the time, expense and risk of damage.Unfortunately ,particulary if you paint large the work mounts up.Luckily internet slowly should break through this barrier and allow self taught people some exposure. Is this problem everywhere or are some countries more open to unqualified artists?

David, not sure your predicament in unique to Holland. Getting work into galleries in the USA is equally difficult with or without a formal art education. Not sure I agree with your "not putting work in restaurants" (insured) as the start of my sales originated by displaying in restaurants and office /medical facilities. Normally if you do not have political connections to gallery staff/owners it's tough to get gallery representation. Most galleries are bludgeoned with artists requests/resumes. Grandaddyearl
