Leaving Facebook?

Postby Artistview » Thu Mar 22, 2018 5:44 pm

Is anyone leaving Facebook due to the data breach etc.? I know some people are in other countries so your Laws on Privacy are a lot better than ours. As we all know in the US the Gov't doesn't care. I bet they collet all the data as well so they can track everyone.

But anyway I joined a site called Minds. You don't even need to give them your name if you don't want to. It's pretty much like the old forums from years ago. Well if you've been online as long as I have you'll know what I mean. You join pick a username and go with it. No one knows who you are unless you want them to know.

You can start a group make it closed or open. The thing I'm trying to understand it, they pay you to use the site. Every 1,000 points = $1 USD. I only have 2,396 because I spent 1,000 to promote my group page and I got one member out of that. 1,000 points get's you 2,000 views.
So if anyone is looking for a new site to join check it out. Minds dot com

Facebook I avoid it as much as possible as with most stuff of that nature online but that's not because of recent event's I have always known about data rape online, stealing your profile, usage and selling it to the highest bidder. I looked at that site and one thing came to mind, "If something is free online then the user is the product" Sorry but I didn't look any deeper into the site it's self.

There are lots of sites online like this one where you can make money, one such site is being used by the same person who was behind the page I looked at. What it looks like they are doing is repackaging their work over numerous sites that pay them a small income. How that income is generated varies but most of it will inevitably be advertising which will include data mining which leaves you open to data rape.

The sad thing is it matters not where you go or what you do online or off you will be monitored for some excuse or other, guaranteed so I just have to get used to it.

Besides all that above, this below I found interesting, the same guy spreading their stuff around different sites, had some nice work. I found the filming technique familiar because I have experimented with filming myself whilst working. Interesting artwork and informative, very reminiscent of H.R. Giger but still impressive, loved it.

I always knew about facebook as well. But I ended up on there because I have friends in Europe, New Zealand etc.. So to keep in contact with them I joined and spent a lot of time trying to get them and other people off of the site. I even tried starting a few forums that didn't work, because everyone is stuck on FB and won't leave. I know people in other countries have better Privacy rights than we do in the US, so that's one reason they won't leave. Even though they are still tracked etc.. I know we are pretty much tracked online. But take FM, there isn't any third party ad's etc. so I don't see much if any tracking going on here.

But I've had enough of FB and I'm going to leave after I finish a couple of things. I already closed my Art page and I'll be closing a group page I started.

But anyway maybe people will change the way they share everything online. I even yell at my daughter that's in her 40's because of everything she post. She thinks or thought FB was safe. Just like a few million other idiots I guess you can call them. Because they have no idea how things are online. I always tell people, if someone can write code, someone can hack it. So no matter what you type or do someone knows about it and just about everyone can see if they know how to look for it. But hey I don't know what I'm talking about :)

There have been times that I wanted to close my FB, but I am an Artist. I have Models, Photographers, Friends, and Family on there. I do not post much, but I notice there is a lot of people that post their selfies and personal information a lot. Also, what gets me, is when they post their where-a-bouts (where they are eating and such.)

Thanks for the information and I will keep that in mind.

I downloaded my FB data and I have phone numbers for people I'm not even friends with. I don't know why I should have anyone's phone number. Plus there's a list of companies that have your information.

I also know what you mean about contacts that are on FB. I have friends in Belgium, Brazil, New Zealand etc. that are on there. Some of us do or did voices overs, DJ's etc.. Members of bands, song writers and so on. I had a page for my art with followers from around the world and a page for Art and Music. But sometimes you just got to put your Privacy before someone's greed.

Years ago you only had forums like this one you could visit. People that worked in the same filed, arts etc.. No one wanted your life story so they could make money from you. They had banner ad's but that was it. But like everything else in this country, Greed rules all and for some odd reason people just don't seem to care about their privacy any more. What I do, you do or whom ever. We have no business knowing what each other is doing or when their doing it. I don't need peoples phone numbers unless they give it to me. I sure don't need phone numbers for people I'm not even friends with on FB.

But it's up to each person what they do or don't do about FB. I'm willing to bet a lot of people start suing FB over the data breach or what ever they are calling it. But then again you do give them the right to invade your privacy.
