Before anyone with thread envy starts whining, I've been hinting for weeks that somebody should start a thread like this, and nobody took the bait.

The thread for all those little announcements, any kind of funny links, welcoming new members, news tidbits, etc. Submit them here.

Issue 1: Oct. 28 - Nov. 3 2007

ANDY TETLOW OUTTED!!!

GARY DEE UPCOMING SURGERY!!!

Gary Dee announced that he has scheduled surgery, to remove strange bug-eyed growth from back of neck. Surgeons say the growth is benign, but highly annoying to fellow members. Dee says he hopes to be able to keep growth in a jar on the mantle.

Fiery-looking mule.

Melbourne Cup over here in OZ next Tuesday.
With the advent of a serious bout of horse flu which has been going around in these parts...the cup is on and mules should be impervious to this strain, because they are all "mules"... some zebras included... a few donkeys also.... maybe also a few shetlands and a handful of palominos included ... but it all boils down to the talent of the mulistic nature of the aforementioned-couple-back more and a bit.

Go mules go.

Since we are in a publication, a bit of trivia:
Anyone know who the very first 'paperboy' was??
Seriously!
Also....Anyone know where the name Gazette came from??

The word gazette comes from gazzetta, a Venetian coin.
The first newpaper was the Arkansas gazette.

Hey Darlin', You get the banana for that one! It stood
for 1 Cent. Newspapers were a penny back then, thus
many newspapers were such & such Gazette. Cool?

So, I'm confused. Is it a Venetian coin or a penny? Strangely, newspapers now, really aren't worth more than a penny, with the BS that's in them.

So, any volunteers to be star reporters?

need advice

Postby thegemsculptor » Sun Nov 04, 2007 7:10 pm

Hey guys,I need some advice.I just got back from vacation and found out my lapis sculpture was damaged during transit to NYC while in the possesion of an organization that judges the most important lapidary arts contest in the country. It was insured for its full value by the organization, but they took 2 full weeks to let me know it was damaged, which doesn't engender a lot of trust in me.I won't know the extent of the damage until tomorrow when I go by their office, but they said that an arm of one of the figures broke off,and the sculpture broke off its base. I'm concerned as to whether they are going to be accountable or not. It's a really expensive sculpture, and I have more than 250 hours of labor in it,so I'm pretty bummed.I'll never be able to sell it at its full value if its been restored.
