I have always loved the impressionists. Is this truly your expression?

Thanks for yor feedback. Yes, this is my impression of the cafe. It represents the scene a couple of hours after Van Gogh's image, with all of the customers and waiters having left fot the night. The two figues near to the backlit window are myself and my wife !... not sure who the third man is supposed to be !!!

Good paintings, no matter what style they are expressed always have a personal, perhaps private story or message. Sometimes controversy arises as to what the artist was thinking; what was going on in his/her life when it was created. This expression is true with any form of art. (music)

You have achieved this here. I never intend to 'blow smoke' when writing a critique like this - my thoughts come from my heart. Sometimes a critique can be jolting - it should never be just a compliment.

Art is an expression of life, and never has to be, nor should necessarily be a beautiful picture.
This piece really has that impressionist feel. I like it more each time I view it. I think that your attempt has been successful.
