Your thoughts on Welsh Cottage

Postby arthur smart » Fri Jul 07, 2017 9:38 am

One of my earliest works, almost 25 years ago !
Was rejected as piece for art college.... looking back it doesn't seem so bad !!
Set my career course as an engineer and not an artist.... much regrets !!!!!

Arthur, looks like it could be two pieces, half left, half right. Ones eye has a tough time taking in entire piece at one time. Normally we try and get the eye to start low left and focus on something higher to the right or give the eye an image to take in at one time . I like the depth on the right but being an architect maybe not so much to the structure on the left. Very little depth, use of light, or perspective involved. Maybe you would have done just fine submitting the right half. Grandaddyearl

I follow your rational re the split. There are a couple of stacks/chimneys on the downward slop, but they are not large enough to overcome the building, especially given that the path is far to straight. It may have worked better at a slight angle along with a tree/the sun or prominent cloud in top right. Thanks for helping me view my work in a more "unbiased" way !
