I would say this is art, it has though and feeling behind it. If this was not called art. then what would you call a urinal off the wall and turned on its side and signed and dated?

For me, yes it is truly an art. Doing this kind is not that easy. It requires such patience and determination. This is so interesting.

thanks everyone for your suggestions.. i like the idea of the street/grafitti art thing, but honestly the only reason I was able to create this was the fact that it was on a computer. I'm a terrible drawer and writer. i was starting to think that this was more of a poem..maybe i should stick to that lol

I like the simplicity of the image that is really whats working for me as well as the words and their message. It reminds me of e.e. cummings poems in the way that the visual structure was as important as the words and i think there were some beat poet/artists that worked in the realm of what youre doing (all i can think of immediately is philip guston not sure if he was a beatnick). good stuff, cheers!

Absolutely! That is an art! I mean it was formed like that and it did not just a form, looking closely at it, it has a message that is on that form! And I know it is not just pasting it all together, it requires someone's creative thinking! That was indeed, ART!

I think art is what you make if it . However do think you should convert it to some sort of medium other than just the computer print . But in the same note I do like it and the messege it gives .

MFrankly wrote:For this work, however, I almost think it isn't art until you do something with it. For me, art implies 'artifact'. If there's no 'thing' at the end of the process, then the process has to be something that engages people - some have mentioned street art, stencils, etc. Reproduction suits it.

Now that is a very good way of getting to it.

Think about Pop art, this can be art, too. 8) I think that this a good piece. To me somethings is art if it has a certain taste or feel to it, no matter how simple it is.

I agree, don't lose your focus as to weather something is "art" or not, the important thing is that it is something ( a message, a picture, a poem) from within your own belief system. As someone who dabbles in word forms and text transfers in my paintings, I find the written word shaped and molded into a picture can be a powerful image and statement.
