New art contest - Snow and Negative Space

Postby bloodjelly » Tue Dec 21, 2010 2:22 pm

Theme: Snow and Negative Space
Deadline: January 24, 2011 - 11:59 PM PST
Medium: No restrictions
Prizes:
  • 1st - $30 Amazon gift certificate or 1-year Reach subscription and 500 exposure points
  • 2nd - $20 Amazon gift certificate or 1-year Reach subscription and 250 exposure points
  • 3rd - $20 Amazon gift certificate or 1-year Reach subscription
Snow can completely transform a landscape overnight. In this contest we're going to focus on sharp contrasts - white against solids - to imply shapes in snow. Wikipedia (of course) has a pretty good definition of negative space, here, but (of course), so does Bill Watterson. Check out his final C&H strip, and a great example of what I'm talking about, below.

Yours doesn't have to be a comic strip, in case I'm confusing anyone. You can take a photo, paint a painting, or whatever you'd like. The subject matter isn't important either, as long as snow and negative space are featured prominently.

Only one entry per person. You need to post the image and/or a link to your image in this thread.

Voting will take place in a separate thread starting the morning of the 25th and going until the end of the 26th.

Have fun. GO GO GO!

It'd be nice to see pieces created just for this contest, too.

"SANTA-CLAUS'-HOT-CHOC" displays a "moon-lit" vista of Santa-Claus
delivering his presents 'of a Christmas Eve.
A couple of stars
shine brightly as Santa's sleigh 'awaits Santa's completion
of his "festive-task".
The snowman "watches-on-eagerly", a
few snowballs resting @ his feet, & a sleigh mimics Santas sleigh.
Santas placed the presents under the Christmas tree and Santas
enjoying his well earned "Hot-Choc".

Collage and sketch pen

one more thing the black figure next to the man is a dog, it was very difficult to cut in such a short size. If it doesn't look like a dog to you feel free to imagine another animal of your choice :D

Merry Christmas and Happy New year to all of you and your family
Enjoy Holidays
