Postby baniroy » Thu May 19, 2011 4:57 am

You might have read a lot about what to do when designing a website but there are many don'ts that your should know when designing a website. Some of the don'ts are too annoying for your visitors and avoided at all costs. Web design and properly structured website is very much appealing for your targeted audience.

Successful designing of a website ensures more business and sales so it is better to make a list of what not to do before you plan to launch a website. By taking care of these small issues, you can get more crowd and better business opportunities than ever before. Website for a small business owner is effective tool for branding so plan your website designing and building by keeping the end user in mind.

The worst things that you should never do to build or update your website are:

Never send your users to the main page
Never create anything that works on specific operating systems.
Never use Java or Flash applets for the navigation purposes
Never use flash to build your entire website
Never use frames and prevent right click option

Besides these don'ts, there are some of the other important factors that should not be ignored while building a website such as:

Ignore the importance of keywords
Ignore proper usage of highlighted keywords and phrases
Ignore the demand of dynamic and attractive web design
Ignore the significance of using bullets and paragraph

When you are building a website than keep in mind to never doing the following:

Web design should not be complicated

Keep the website designing as simple as possible for the end user. The user on your website should not feel lost but find it easy to navigate through various pages easily. The navigation style should be easy and user friendly.

Do not upload heavy graphics

Heavy graphics take more time than usual to download. Many internet users may not wait that long or might be suffering from poor internet services and leave due to the heavy downloading of graphics on your website.

Change the boring, dull look

Nobody wants to stay on a website for long that is dull and boring. Usually, internet audience love bright and colorful websites with interesting layout and pleasing graphics. Web design should be appealing and dynamic as well as inviting.

Add your company logo

Many companies or brands have logos. If you do not have then it is a good idea to get yourself branded and place logo on your website.

Stale content

Many website owners overlook the fact that if they do not update the content on their websites, nobody would like to come back again for stale content. If you want your targeted audience regularly and repeatedly visit your website then update the content on regular basis.

Text only website

It may be not wise to make use of plenty of option available nowadays for using multimedia tools. Add interesting graphics, videos, audio files and whatever that entices your targeted audience to revisit your website several times a day.

Never send your users to the main page

I'm assuming that you mean "Don't employ a 'splash page;' go directly to the index." ?

(Don't) "Ignore the importance of keywords"

Well, keywords in the actual body of the page - Google, Yahoo, and any other notable search engines have since stopped reading keywords from meta tags.

Ah, so that's what this was leading to

I think the when people talk about web design, they take the word design a little too serious because they start popping out those weird looking themes and colors that they think match together, but really don't. There are also those who put in a lot of pictures which just proves to be heavy on loading making the load time at times unbearable when you are not in a stable connection. It is all about doing what is just right and making up for it in content.

Probably worth while to track "hits" and locations of interest as well. Maybe gives one a hint as to success of a website and where to concentrate marketing. Grandaddyearl

Hello, can our Reach website be adjusted to the dis-allow right click option? How does one do that? Can that option be added to just any website?
Thank you, Lorena
